Hope Isn't a Strategy

For a long time, my referral strategy looked like this:

Do good work. Be a decent human. Hope people talk.

Some months it worked. Some months it didn't. And when it didn't, the answer was always the same: spend more on ads and cross your fingers.

Referrals Done Right (RDR) exists because hope is not a system.

We've built a way for real business owners in real towns to:

  • Get more referrals without turning into full-time marketers
  • Build real relationships instead of chasing random clicks
  • Tie their business to something bigger than themselves — like schools and community impact

A Simple Relationship System

RDR Weekly Podcast and Events

Referrals Done Right is a simple, practical way to build #RDRNation — a community of people who you know, trust you, and want to help you grow.

It's built around three things:

  • RDR Weekly — a weekly email that gives you one small, smart move each week

  • The Referrals Done Right podcast — the locker room where we talk about what's really working

  • Simple frameworks and weekly challenges that help you turn relationships and community involvement into consistent referrals

No tricks. Just a system you can actually run.

No Hacks. No Hype.

Just as important as what RDR is… is what it’s not.

RDR is not:

  • A “hit up everyone you’ve ever met” program
  • A spammy marketing tactic or cold-pitch factory
  • A promise that you’ll grow your business 10x in 10 days if you “want it bad enough”

If you’re looking for hacks, shortcuts, or ways to squeeze more out of people… this probably isn’t for you.

If you care about doing good work, being known for it, and growing in a way you’re proud of, you’re in the right place.

How This Became a Framework

I spent years running a local business where referrals were the difference between a good month and a stressful one. I believed in community. I believed in schools. I believed in showing up. But I didn’t have a system for any of it.

Over time, I started testing simple, repeatable ways to:

Recognizing trusted businesses

Stay in touch with the right people

Bundle of RDR resources

Show up consistently for schools and community partners

Trusted business badge

Make it easy - and natural - for people to refer your business

Those experiments turned into frameworks. The frameworks turned into the Referrals Done Right book. And the book turned into what you see here: a community, a podcast, a valuable newsletter, and a set of simple steps you can run in your town.

How We Show Up

#RDRNation isn't just a cute hashtag. It's a shorthand for how we try to show up.

We believe in:

  • Generosity over gimmicks — Lead with value, not tricks

  • Consistency over intensity — Small, steady actions beat big, one-time pushes

  • Community over ego Tie your business to something bigger than yourself.

  • Relationships over reach You don't need everyone. You need the right people.

If that resonates, you're already one of us.
